Course duration: Practical elements are covered over 4 days attendance at our centre 9.30am – 5.30pm. Theory elements are covered by homestudy, typically over 3 to 12 months plus 1 final assessments to be carried out at our centre.
Course description: The use of colour as a therapy is a non-invasive holistic therapy which dates back thousands of years and the effects of colour on our moods, health, thoughts and feelings have been studied by scientists for years. Colour seems to have an effect even on blind people, who are thought to sense colour as a result of energy vibrations created within the body. Today the therapeutic applications of light and colour are being investigated in major hospitals and research centres worldwide. Results indicate that full-spectrum, ultraviolet, coloured, and laser light can have therapeutic value for a range of conditions from chronic pain and depression to immune disorders.
What will I learn? This qualification covers the concepts of the history and theory of colour therapy, theories of life force, colour, auras and chakras and includes interpersonal skills and consultation. It also includes counselling techniques and the relationship of colour therapy to auras and chakras. It covers the use of colour in relation to other therapies such as yoga and metamorphic technique to give a thorough grounding in the subject. The aim of this course is to train students to a professionally competent level enabling them to provide holistic colour therapy which meets client needs, develop understanding of the relationship of colour therapy to the aura and chakras and to demonstrate a full and accurate understanding of the application of interpersonal skills and their integration with physical therapies. You will learn about the visual light spectrum, the healing power of colour, the influence of colour on mood and emotions. You will also learn about the use of colour in food, clothing and environment, as well as auras, chakra balancing, visualisation, breathing and meditation. Although Colour Therapy lacks scientific validation, you will learn how to provide a safe and professional service for clients.

What are the course requirements? It is recommended that you have a level of general education comparable to GCSEs. You should have a caring disposition and be committed to fulfilling the in-class and guided home study components of the course. Students are required to cover specific colours in order to meet the performance criteria and range statements for the 2011/2012 syllabus; therefore we have prepared our VTCT Holistic Colour Therapy Kit which is included in the courses costs. To enrol on this course you must attend an enrolment interview either in person meeting the course tutor, or via telephone/Skype. You must meet the required Guided learning Hours (GLH) by attending our centre and by attending classes in our Virtual Learning Environment, online meetings and reviews with your tutor and assessor via Moodle.
Case studies: You must carry out and document evidence for at least twenty treatments on a minimum of four clients.
How will I be assessed: This qualification requires the student to provide evidence of competence in the form of case studies or individual treatments to cover range statements, demonstrate sufficient knowledge to be able to explain Colour Therapy and provide it safely, effectively and consistently.
Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to complete both practical and theoretical assignments at home. Assessments will take place during the course and again when all your case studies and Portfolio of Evidence is completed.
