Course duration: Practical elements are covered over 5 days attendance at our centre 9.30am – 5.30pm. Theory elements are covered by homestudy, typically over 3 to 12 months plus 3 final assessments and a written exam to be carried out at our centre.
Course description: Aromatherapy is the specialist application of essential oils which is used in a variety of contexts including uplift, relaxation, stress relief and remedial not subject to medical prohibition and connected to palliative care.
What will I learn? The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy (QCF) provides you with knowledge of the principles of aromatherapy, and how aromatherapists practice. You will learn health, safety and hygiene, human anatomy, physiology and pathology, how to prepare the treatment area, yourself and your client, you will demonstrate competence in dealing with clients, using consultation techniques, using information for planning treatments. You will learn the benefits and techniques of aromatherapy massage and the sources and effects of essential oils, and be able to provide treatments safely and effectively to clients in different circumstances. You will learn to reflect on the outcomes of treatments, and offer a series of treatments to achieve a desirable result. Aspects of business studies are also included.
National Occupational Standards (NOS): Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable). This qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This qualification is approved and supported by Skills for Health, the sector skills council for health.

What are the course requirements? It is recommended that you have a level of general education comparable to GCSEs. You should have a caring disposition and be committed to fulfilling the in-class and guided home study components of the course. Students are required to cover specific oils in order to meet the performance criteria and range statements for the 2010/2011 syllabus; therefore we have prepared our comprehensive VTCT Aromatherapy Starter Kit which must be purchased before the course commences.
To enroll on this course you must attend an enrollment interview either in person meeting the course tutor, or via telephone/Skype. You must meet the required Guided learning Hours (GLH) by attending our centre and by attending classes in our Virtual Learning Environment, online meetings and reviews with your tutor and assessor via Moodle.
Case studies – For Unit UC30327 – Provide Aromatherapy you must carry out and document evidence for at least 45 treatments. For Unit UC30328 – Reflective Practice for Aromatherapy you must carry out and document evidence for at least 15 treatments. Each case study must include a client questionnaire, lifestyle assessment, consent form, consultation record, treatment record, after care advice and client feedback.
How will I be assessed? This qualification requires the student to provide evidence of competence in the form of case studies or individual treatments to cover range statements, demonstrate sufficient knowledge to be able to explain Aromatherapy and provide it safely, effectively and consistently.
Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to complete both practical and theoretical assignments at home. Assessments will take place during the course and again when all your case studies and Portfolio of Evidence is completed.
